"I really like the way you can access your work items from within Outlook. I like the way you can bring up the full work item forms, make edits, and save immediately to TFS. It was great to create new meeting requests or mail messages from the work items."

"I like the idea of being able to link work items to e-mails and meetings. I also like that it provides non-technical information workers the option of working with TFS in a more familiar environment. Congratulations to TeamExpand on the release!"

"TX Chrono, by TeamExpand, allows users to easily track how they are spending their time, store that information in TFS, and make it available for reporting in the warehouse."

TFS Basic 2010 Features and Limitations

October 22nd, 2009
by Olga Belokurskaya

Hi!

As you know, Microsoft has introduced a TFS configuration named TFS Basic to VS/TFS 2010 Beta 2. This new option simplifies and quickens TFS installation, providing users with basic TFS possibilities. Here is some more information I’ve read recently at Buck Hodges’ about TFS Basic 2010 features and limitations.

There’s no warehouse for Basic configuration. This creates some limitations in TFS management. Specifically, Excel reporting is not provided.

Then (I think, I’ve mentioned it already earlier) SharePoint or Reporting Services can’t be configured (however, if someone will need these particular features added to their TFS, needed configurations may be done through Team Foundation Administration Console).

Web access is not available right from the Team Explorer menu, only via a separate link.

And about users’ limitations. Actually, the number of users is not limited; however, when there are more than five users starting from the sixth one they should have TFS CALs.
